Alumna Curry lands $2 million grant for Project CELLS

April 26, 2013

UW-Madison School of Education alumna Mary Jane Curry, an associate professor at the University of Rochester, has been awarded a $2 million grant from the Office of English Language Acquisition of the U.S. Department of Education.

Curry earned her Ph.D. from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in 2000.

The grant award is for "Project CELLS: Western New York Collaboration for English Language Learner Success," a five-year partnership with local school districts to improve support for English language learners across teaching, counseling and leadership staff.

This grant also supports developing curriculum for students with Interrupted Formal Education.

Meanwhile, Curry has also been awarded a faculty Fulbright fellowship to the Universidad Mayor in Santiago, Chile for the 2014 spring semester.
