Winifred Godfrey, who earned an MFA from UW-Madison in 1970, will have a retrospective show called, “Winifred Godfrey: 40 years of painting,” Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. This exhibit will include close to 100 works of art, and will be held at Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey, Ill.

J.J. Sedelmaier, who graduated from UW-Madison in 1978 and who maintains close ties to the university as a member of the Art Department's Board of Visitors, created the 2013 Great Taste of the Midwest logo.

UW-Madison alumnus Bohl featured in Battle Creek (Mich.) Enquirer
Jeff Bohl, who earned a master’s degree from UW-Madison’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction in 1998, was featured Tuesday in an article that appeared in the Battle Creek (Mich.) Enquirer. Bohl is the new principal at Lakeview High School, which is located in St. Clair Shores, Mich.

Showcase of Wisconsin art to feature numerous works of UW faculty, alums
The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art will be highlighting 35 of Wisconsin's most innovative artists during the 2013 Wisconsin Triennial in September, The Capital Times reports. And half of those artists whose work will be showcased have ties to UW-Madison’s Art Department.

UW alum’s ‘The Fifty United Plates’ campaign soaring on kickstarter.com
UW-Madison alumnus Ryan Lawless, who earned an MFA in ceramic sculpture from the Art Department in 2012, is enjoying wild success with a Kickstarter.com campaign titled, "The Fifty United Plates." Ryan Lawless is half of Corbé Company with his partner Kaitlyn Lawless, and together they are raising funds for this unique art project.

Alum of UW-Madison's athletic training program helps save life of teen
April Daniels, an alumna of the Department of Kinesiology’s athletic training program, is credited for fast action in using an automated external defibrillator (AED) to save the life of a basketball player at a tournament in Mequon, Wis., Milwaukee’s Fox affiliate reports. Daniels earned her BS from UW-Madison in 2005.

Alum Smith joins WVU College of Education & Human Services as associate dean
Smith, who earned a Ph.D. from the Department of Educational Psychology in 1988, is a nationally known expert on adult literacy assessment and STEM education who spent the previous 25 years as a professor of educational psychology at Northern Illinois University.

Study suggests pricey football helmets don’t lower concussion risks
The newest and most expensive football helmets won’t lower an athlete’s risk of suffering a concussion, research presented by a UW-Madison alumnus at last week’s annual meeting of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine indicates.

UW-Madison alumna White Hawk earns prestigious McKnight Artist Fellowship
UW-Madison alumna Dyani White Hawk was awarded a 2013-14 McKnight Artist Fellowship for Visual Artists, the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD), and The McKnight Foundation announced. Hawk earned her MFA in studio arts from the School of Education’s Art Department in 2011 and now lives in Minneapolis.
