In this talk Amos Kambere details the genesis of the school he founded in Rwentutu, Uganda.
Taking the audience through his journey from a being member of the Ugandan parliament overthrown in 1986, through his family's flight and refugee experiences, he chronicles the creation of the Rwentutu Christian Community School in Rwentutu Uganda. He discusses the school's beginnings through community partnerships, the role of the community and external partners, the involvement of UW-Madison, and the impact of the school on the local community.
About Amos Kambere
Amos Kambere is a former Ugandan Member of Parliament (1980 -1985). He co-founded Umoja Operation Compassion Society, an organization that serves new African immigrants in British Columbia, Canada. He is the recipient of the prestigious J. W. Vandusen Community Service Award of 2008 as well as an award from The Leader, a community newspaper, for mentorship and leadership. He is a member of the Focus on Africa working group of Simon Fraser University and Engaging Diaspora in Development: Tapping Our Trans-local Potential. His book "Celebrating Literacy in the Rwenzori Region" was published in April 2011.
