Description

Partisanship in recent years has reached its most extreme levels on record, and millennials are disaffecting from a dysfunctional political system. Numerous polarizing forces, worsened by fear-based campaign fundraising and media echo chambers, have served as a barrier to what we elected our leaders to do: govern.

Steven OlikaraThat makes our society terribly vulnerable at a moment when we face historic challenges to our institutions and economy. So what can we do to combat extreme partisanship and restore a governing system that works? What roles do public universities and college students play in building an inclusive political environment?

Steven Olikara is a UW-Madison alumnus and founder of the Millennial Action Project, the largest nonpartisan organization of millennial lawmakers in the United States. In this talk, hosted by the Wisconsin Center for the Advancement of Postsecondary Education (WISCAPE), he will chart a path forward that is championed by a new generation of political leaders, highlighting higher education as a key part of the solution.
