The Capital Times recently put the spotlight on UW-Madison alumnus Sean Frazier, who is helping student-athletes excel in life beyond sports.

Frazier earned a master’s degree from the School of Education's Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis in 2015. Frazier also ran many of the day-to-day operations of the UW athletics department until 2013, when he left to become the athletic director at Northern Illinois University.

At a talk organized by Madison nonprofit ProSquared, Frazier explored the topics of mentorship, education and compensation for student-athletes, which Frazier said is necessary for schools to stay competitive.

Frazier also explored the importance of introducing student-athletes to community groups and financial literacy.

The article quotes Frazier as saying: “You can definitely achieve a balance between academics and athletics. But there has to be (support). It has to be top-down, bottom-up, side to side, all in the middle. And it has to be community-based.”
