E-newsletter for Education Faculty & Staff

The INSIDER SCOOP is the School of Education's employee newsletter. It is delivered to the inboxes of our faculty, staff and graduate assistants twice per month, during the academic year.

The newsletter is compiled and edited by the External Relations Office. Information featured in the Scoop is often published on the school's news and events website News Connections, and shared via social media.

The Insider Scoop Schedule for the 2016-17 academic year is: Aug. 24, Sept. 7 and 21, Oct. 5 and 19, Nov. 2, 16 and 30, Dec. 14, Jan. 18, Feb. 1 and 15, March 1 and 15, April 5 and 19, May 3.

Send ideas, links and content that may be of specific interest to School of Education faculty & staff to insider@education.wisc.edu

If you have an item you’d like to be considered for publication, please submit it at least five working days in advance of when you would like it to be published. The earlier you submit content, the more likely it is to be included in some way.

The Insider Scoop publishes a series of regular sections including:

Several from School of Education to share expertise in Active Teaching Lab events this fall

Several educators from across UW-Madison’s School of Education will be sharing their knowledge of teaching with technology as part of this fall’s Active Teaching Lab lineup. The Active Teaching Lab provides a safe space for structured exploration of tools and techniques to engage students and teach more effectively.

​Several educators from across UW-Madison’s School of Education will be sharing their knowledge of teaching with technology as part of this fall’s Active Teaching Lab lineup.

The Active Teaching Lab provides a safe space for structured exploration of tools and techniques to engage students and teach more effectively. Among those from the School of Education sharing their expertise this fall include:

Course Design: Stephanie Graham, a clinical associate professor with the Department of Counseling Psychology, and Maria Widmer, an instructional designer with MERIT, will discuss thoughtful course design in Canvas on Sept. 21 from 1 to 2 p.m. The event is in room 120 of the Middleton Building.

Asynchronous Discussion in Canvas: Karin Spader from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction will share strategies for designing productive class conversations on Nov. 3 from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. The session is in room 120 of the Middleton Building. 

Student Learning and Rubrics in Canvas: Karla Ausderau, an assistant professor with the Department of Kinesiology, will present on improving student learning with rubrics on Nov. 17 from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. The event is in Room 120 of the Middleton Building.

Teaching Feedback in an Online Canvas Course: Joe Anistranski from the Department of Educational Psychology will explore methods of building student feedback into assignments in online courses on Dec. 8 from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. The course is held in room 120 of the Middleton Building.
