UW-Madison's Ventura publishes article in Association of Mexican American Educators

UW-Madison's Julissa Ventura recently published an article in the Association of Mexican American Educators Journal about creating a community-based space in a Latina/o youth group.

Ventura is a doctoral student in the School of Education's Department of Educational Policy Studies

The article explores the "construction of a youth-led, grassroots Latino youth group in a mid-sized, Midwestern city." In the group, Latino youth shared their experiences and knowledge alongside adult community allies while developing social awareness. 

Ventura's article suggests "when youth are given an opportunity to create and lead their own space, they can provide powerful insight and perspective on educational issues." The valuable knowledge gained from this study can help make classrooms and educational programs more engaging and culturally relevant for Latino and Latina students.
