Glass Holiday Ornament Sale and Blow Your Own Ornament event Dec. 15-16

December 05, 2018

UW-Madison’s Art Department pioneered glass as a fine art and was the first university in the country to implement a glassblowing laboratory for art students. This outstanding program has produced widely recognized glass artists, like Dale Chihuly, who has gone on to produce world-recognized, exquisite glass sculptures and continues to exhibit his work.

This holiday season, the School of Education’s glass program invites the public to find their inner artist. They will be hosting their annual Glass Holiday Ornament Sale and Blow Your Own Ornament event from Dec. 15-16, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., alongside the glass lab and the Mad Gaffers, UW-Madison’s glassblowing club.

At this event, people will be able to hand-craft their own unique holiday ornaments and get a behind the scenes look at the School of Education’s famed glassblowing program. For $45, participants will be able to choose their own colors and use hand tools and their own breath to shape and inflate a glass ornament. People are also able to purchase a pre-made hand-crafted ornament for $35, and everyone is invited to watch live glassblowing all weekend.

All proceeds from the holiday sale and blow-your-own ornament event will support education of UW-Madison glass students. This event will take place at the Art Lofts, at 111 N. Frances St.
